How This Tool Works
The Solar Carbon Footprint Visualizer translates abstract energy data into real-world environmental milestones. While "Kilowatt-hours" (kWh) are used for billing, they don't capture the impact of preventing atmospheric pollution.
This calculator uses EPA-derived conversion factors to turn your system's output into tangible metrics: trees grown, coal unburned, and car miles eliminated from the road.
How to Use the Visualizer
- System Size (kW): Enter the total rated power of your array.
- Annual Production (kWh): Enter your total yearly generation. If you don't know it, leave it blank, and we'll estimate it based on standard US efficiency averages (~1,250 kWh per 1kW installed).
- Impact Analysis: Review the "Annual Impact" cards to see your contribution to the planet.

For a standard 8kW solar system producing 10,000 kWh/year:
- CO2 Offset: ~7.5 Metric Tons per year.

Understanding your impact requires looking at the "Grid Mix" of your local utility:
